GiveBIG is here! There’s a good feeling we get when we show up for others. Great things happen for everyone when you give what you can. Help our community by supporting our work. You can make a difference in our community for some of our most vulnerable neighbors with your gift today!
1) Welcoming All
Every day, thousands in our community are told that there isn't space for people like them. Interfaith Works is creating those spaces.
We have designed all of our buildings using the direct input and specific suggestions for site design of the people who utilize our spaces to feel comfortable and centered.
By creating a welcoming environment that communicates respect and compassion, Interfaith Works (IW) takes a holistic approach to addressing homelessness by working with a broad and diverse coalition of faith communities, neighborhood groups, local and state governments, businesses, social service and healthcare entities. Together, we meet our most vulnerable neighbors where they are, providing a feeling of safety and of family-the kind of care you'd want your own mother, brother, daughter, or friend to have.
2) Saving Lives
Interfaith Works provides many life-saving services, one of these is emergency weather sheltering.
Emergency weather in Thurston County threatens hundreds of homeless residents who may be seriously under-prepared for extreme conditions. Sergio's Service Center extends hours when an emergency weather event is declared. During winter (Code Blue) popup overnight shelter will be offered or in the summer (Code Red) day shelter will be offered during extremely hot days. In recent years we have seen emergency weather events become more frequent and extreme due to the effects of climate change.
Last year we sheltered an average of 69 people per night/day during 5 emergency weather responses. This year we have already sheltered an average of 80 people per night over 15 nights for 2 separate Code Blue events.
Please make a gift today and share our story with everyone you know. Every donation helps us provide emergency weather sheltering so we can continue to support our most vulnerable neighbors.
3) Honoring Memories
Each year in Thurston County, there are persons who die and whose remains go unclaimed. Interfaith Works creates space to honor these lives through an Interfaith Day of Remembrance. We believe that no one should go unclaimed.
Another iteration of honoring memories is Moments of Blessing. Moments of Blessing is a faith-based response to cases of homicide, to reclaim the place of violence as a place of life and peace. These gatherings are poignant and healing for those who attend.
The third way we remember is through the work we do on International Overdose Awareness Day. Thurston County hosts this event at the end of August to remember those who have been lost to fatal drug overdose and to help reduce the stigma of overdose and drug use. Interfaith Works has an information table at the event as well as a memorial booth.
GiveBIG! is a chance for all of us to come together, give generously and strengthen our communities by giving to the causes we love! You can learn more about our work at our website. We are super grateful for everyone who has supported us and continues to do so!
