Our mission is to engage Pacific Northwest residents in social issues by providing compelling, changemaking investigative and explanatory journalism.  

Our vision is a society of informed residents and citizens empowered to exercise their rights and work within their communities to make the world a more just and equitable place.

Description

Celebrating over a decade of award-winning work, InvestigateWest is an independent investigative journalism nonprofit and online news source focused on issues of environment, government accountability, and public health in the Pacific Northwest. We offer hard-hitting watchdog investigative and explanatory reporting in the face of shrinking traditional news sources and an age of misinformation. InvestigateWest is known for its trustworthy reporting, and for finding stories not reported elsewhere. We move the needle on social issues, policy and inquiries at a state and federal level, and help communities find the information they tell us they value and need to be informed residents of our region. 

Our work has led directly to the passage of a dozen state laws in Washington, Oregon and Idaho, protecting the environment, workers' health, and vulnerable children, released federal environmental data studies that had previously been buried (costing American taxpayers billions), and led to funding of investigations and racism trainings in Washington State.
