THE COMMUNITY CRISIS WE’RE MEETING HEAD-ON

The national animal care and sheltering crisis isn’t a headline from somewhere else. It's happening right here. Right now. On Vashon.

The team at Haven has been on the front lines of island animal sheltering and support work for double-digit years, steadfastly serving the community to ensure the well-being of island dogs and cats and to provide hands-on support for the people who care for them.

The animal and community needs we see daily — both in scope and urgency — are unprecedented.

More pets than ever are in urgent need of sheltering and rehoming, and more families require full support to keep their animals healthy and at home.

Stepping up to provide this community service and animal sheltering work is a heavy lift and can be heartbreaking.

Still, our team of over 40 volunteers is here doing it every day — tirelessly working, with boots on the ground and hearts wide open.

As a newer organization, we don’t have deep coffers. But we have fierce dedication, skill, and an uncompromising belief that true animal support, rescue work and community service is unwavering and uncompromising.

ANIMAL SHELTERING AND REHOMING

We strive to keep pets in loving homes through our wraparound and full support services, but the reality is that there are increasing numbers of cases where an animal needs a new family. In these times, we welcome island dogs and cats into our home-based shelter called Haven House.

Here, there are couches, not kennels. There are private spaces and play areas, streaming TV, daily treat parties, and all the animals are allowed on the bed. Surrounded by forests and fields, dogs and cats are given refuge, an abundance of love and a new beginning.

In 2025, Haven welcomed ONE HUNDRED animals into our care—where we provide safety, comfort, and a home until their new home is found.

FREE VACCINATIONS, MICROCHIPPING AND SPAY-NEUTER SUPPORT

Through our HAVEN CARES program, we provide:

• FREE IN-HOME VACCINATIONS for community members facing financial hardship.
• FREE MICROCHIPPING FOR ALL.
• FREE SPAY-NEUTER services and transport for community members in need.

FREE PET FOOD SUPPORT

We are thrilled to announce that we recently launched our new full-service Pet Food Pantry at a centralized location near town.

At our monthly distributions, we provide community members in need with a FULL MONTH OF FOOD for each pet in the home and even toss in treats.
