It All Started When…

Back in 2019, after years of giving back through Girls Giving Back—with over 200 shelter transformation projects and ongoing partnerships with local shelters—we realized something important. Working directly with youth who were falling through the cracks and listening to our community made it clear: we couldn’t do it alone.

The real power lies in community, in our relationships, and in how we come together. That’s why Be Kind 5 was born—to connect people and communities with the resources they need to be the change.

Through the Five Pillars of Kindness—Mental Health, Giving Back, Earth Service, Physical Health, and Financial Health—we create a framework for real change. Each pillar represents a commitment to care for ourselves, our communities, and our planet. Together, they form a holistic approach to empowerment: nurturing emotional well-being, fostering generosity, protecting the environment, promoting healthy lifestyles, and building financial resilience. By supporting one another across these pillars, we don’t just make a difference—we create lasting impact that ripples through generations.

As of March 2025, Girls Giving Back officially became Be Kind 5, expanding our reach and launching new programs to amplify kindness in action.

To everyone who has supported GGB since 2009—thank you! We’re excited to continue this mission with you. If you feel inspired, we’d love your volunteer support and donations to keep these programs thriving.

Our Giving Back Programs

Self-Kindness for Teens

Mental health matters—and so does self-love. Our youth-led empowerment programs are designed to give teens the tools they need to thrive emotionally and mentally. Through workshops, peer-led discussions, and creative activities, we help young people build resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging. Our first Youth Self Kindness Expo in October 2026 was a huge success, this initiative will create safe spaces for teens to learn, share, and grow together.

Shelter Support

Since 2009, we’ve transformed over 200 shelter spaces, creating environments that feel safe, dignified, and hopeful for women, children, and families in transition. Our work goes beyond design—we listen to shelter staff and residents to understand their needs, then organize volunteers and resources to make it happen. Guiding shelters on how to create a respectful, loving, healing environment to support shelters in their continued growth.

Referral Programming for Shelters

We know that transitional shelters often need more than physical transformation—they need access to resources that help residents rebuild their lives. Our Referral Programming connects shelters and their residents to vital community services, including mental health, financial literacy, arts, physical body movement support. By building strong partnerships with local organizations, we ensure that families and individuals have a pathway to stability and independence. This program is about more than survival—it’s about creating a foundation for thriving.

Youth Empowerment Program Partners (Adult coaching/guidance)

Mirror Echoes: Youth-Led Body Positivity Program

  • Core Concept: Youth lead conversations and workshops on body image, self-worth, and confidence, creating a ripple effect of empowerment.
  • Activities: Peer-Led Circles: Safe spaces for teens to share experiences and dismantle harmful beauty standards.

Financial Health Education

Financial literacy is a cornerstone of empowerment. Our upcoming programs will provide practical tools and education for both youth and adult entrepreneurs—covering budgeting, saving, investing, credit management, and building sustainable businesses. Through workshops, mentorship, and digital resources, we aim to break down barriers to financial confidence. This initiative will help individuals take control of their financial future, reduce stress, and create opportunities for long-term success. Because when people understand money, they unlock freedom.
