Our Mission

Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park (FLSSP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting, enhancing and promoting Lake Sammamish State Park for the benefit of the entire community. FLSSP commits to making outdoor recreation and Lake Sammamish State Park more accessible and welcoming to all communities, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, ability, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. FLSSP aims to connect all communities to the environmental, educational and recreational resources at the park, and strengthen those connections through park improvements, community events, and community outreach. We work in support of and in cooperation with the Washington State Parks Commission to maintain and celebrate a highly successful park.

For more than a decade, Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park has worked to sustain and enhance the community gem that is Lake Sammamish State Park. Thanks to the generosity of our community, FLSSP has brought vibrant signature events to life, funded playgrounds for children, offered programs that inspire the next generation of artists, conservationists, and community leaders, envisioned accessible and enhanced trails, added water‑bottle filling stations, and—together with partners—restored natural habitat to create a resilient, healthy ecosystem for people and wildlife for generations to come.

Renewing the Orchard : Rooted in History. Growing for the Future.

Renewing the Orchard is our 2026 GiveBIG campaign to restore and steward the historic apple orchard at Lake Sammamish State Park. Rooted in history and still growing for the future, this project protects a beloved piece of community heritage while ensuring these trees thrive for generations to come.

Over the past year, FLSSP has been seeking the right partner to help us care for the park’s historic apple orchard. We are thrilled to now be working alongside Washington State Parks staff and City Fruit to steward these beloved trees over the next several years. Through this partnership, FLSSP will hire certified fruit‑tree specialists to care for the century‑old orchard as well as several younger fruit trees throughout the park. This work allows us to preserve a living piece of community history while continuing to tell the story of this landscape and steward it forward.
