Tucked into a rugged gorge in Woodland, Washington, the Cedar Creek Grist Mill stands as a rare and remarkable piece of the past. Built in 1876 by George Woodham and his sons, it remains the only grain grinding mill in Washington State that still retains its original structure, operates with grinding stones, and is powered by water.

Over the decades, the mill has served many purposes—grinding grain for local families, acting as a social hub for dances and gatherings, and even housing a machine shop and blacksmith operation during the logging boom. Though time, weather, and neglect once threatened its survival, a passionate group of community members stepped in to save it.

In 1980, The Friends of the Cedar Creek Grist Mill, a nonprofit organization, was formed. Through dedication, craftsmanship, and community support, volunteers restored the mill using authentic techniques. Their efforts culminated in a proud moment in 1989 when the mill once again ground wheat in celebration of Washington State’s Centennial.

Today, the mill operates as a working museum, welcoming visitors from across the country and around the world.
