Our Mission

To empower people with Down syndrome and their families through life-long learning and experiences, while building an accepting and inclusive society. DSC is passionate about creating a world where people with Down syndrome participate fully in inclusive schools, activities and workplaces; and where they feel accepted, supported and celebrated for the extraordinary individuals they are.

Our History

In 1988, a small group of parents came together to support each other in raising children with Down syndrome. Now over 30 years later, the Down Syndrome Community (DSC) of Puget Sound has grown to become the preeminent nonprofit organization providing services, programs and resources for nearly 1800 individuals throughout the Puget Sound region annually. DSC is the only organization in this region entirely focused on serving people with Down syndrome and their families.

• DSC is a community where families can celebrate and connect with each other. The organization directly serves families through educational, social and emotional support programming. The DSC hosts events throughout the year to bring this multicultural community together and support groups for parents, grandparents, siblings, and families.

Our Future

In February 2022, we opened the doors to the DSC Campus, which is a major milestone for our organization and the community we're honored to serve. For the first time in our 28-year history, we have a multipurpose space entirely dedicated to housing our specialized educational programming and social events for individuals with Down syndrome of all ages and their families. From this solid foundation, we look forward to growing the impact we make in the lives of the Down Syndrome Community while also expanding our efforts to build a vibrant, inclusive and accepting society for all.
