We are a rural, all volunteer food bank that has been providing nutritious food at no cost to anyone that needs it since 1983. We are the only food bank within a 30 mile radius in eastern Snohomish County. Due to our remote location in the North Cascades we drive over 1000 miles each month to pick up food donations. We serve an average 135-140 households per week including household delivery to 22 residents that can’t get to the food bank. Twice monthly we provide evening food distribution to make sure working families can come by and pick up food after work. The food bank provides diabetic supplies twice a month to 27 households. In addition, we provide donated pet food that we pick up from monthly from Seattle Humane in Bellevue. We have established a satellite pantry at the high school to provide easy-to-prepare meals and hygiene supplies to students who often go without during school breaks.
We coordinate with other agencies to distribute information for low cost dental services, home energy products, veterans services, and transportation need surveys.
During the summer, in coordination with a paraprofessional from the Darrington School District, our student interns have begun managing the Teen Tent, a weekly distribution of easy to prepare meals, fruits and vegetables to students who don’t get enough nutritious food during the summer. This summer the Sno-Isle Library at Darrington will be joining us at Old School Park to hold a Story-Time after-which the food bank volunteers will provide snacks.
