Mission

Founded in 2016, Dacha Theatre is a Seattle-based theater company that specializes in devised, immersive, and playful work.

We believe everyone has a story worth telling, and we strive to tell our stories with whomever we can. That is why our shows and events are always ticketed on a sliding scale, and have a pay-what-you-can option, so that no one ever has a financial barrier to coming and telling stories with us.

Description

As we turn ten we're getting a little wiser and a whole lot bolder. We've got SO many exciting things in store, and we cannot wait to share them with you! In our past season, over 1,900 tickets were Pay-What-You-Can or offered at reduced prices. We are committed to giving everyone the opportunity to experience art at a price they can afford.

That’s why we rely on fabulous supporters like you. Ticket sales cover only a small portion of what it takes to make our productions possible. Your generosity ensures that theatre in the Pacific Northwest remains ambitious, joyful, and accessible to all.

This Spring: The Best Damn Thing by Hanna Kime, directed by co-Artistic Director Kate Drummond

April 1st - April 18th, 12th Avenue Arts: Studio

It's the summer of 2011, and Ellie has written what just might be the best jukebox musical ever conceived, inspired by the early discography of Avril Lavigne. She’s ready to share it with the world, starting with her much cooler ex-best friend and theatre teacher's favorite Rachel, who she thinks can help her pitch it for their school’s spring musical. Over the course of one evening of workshopping, the two girls rekindle their friendship and reopen old wounds. The Best Damn Thing is a boldly theatrical exploration of young women’s genius and power in the face of a world that refuses to take them seriously.

Who We Are
A "dacha" is a Russian cottage, a retreat and a time apart, a place for family where the generations mingle. Our Dacha seeks out stories that strike a chord of familiarity in our audience and are full of movement, comedy, and audience interaction. We are constantly in pursuit of new ways to tell old stories and ways to make new stories resonate, whether it is through our original immersive shows, our innovative "Dice" takes on Shakespeare and classic texts, or our movement-driven stagings of new works. We are committed to creating a welcoming community at every level of our organization, from pay-what-you-can tickets for all events, to audition workshops to empower diverse storytellers of all backgrounds to work with us. Dacha Theatre is run by a seven-person producing staff and supported by a company of over 40 artists and creators.

What We Do: Empowering Our Audiences
Audience interaction is a core part of Dacha's mission, and all of our shows are immersive or interactive in some form - whether our audiences are exploring a mansion in Burien while performing seances, a neighborhood park transformed into Neverland, playing an original board game on a custom-built digital platform, or interacting with Shakespearean clowns from their seats. We pride ourselves in making our immersive theater approachable and welcoming; our audiences always feel empowered as an important and necessary part of the story. Our passion for creating art and community extends beyond our stages - in addition to producing at least three shows a year, we offer ongoing events to bring our community closer together, including quarterly workshops for creators of all experience levels, and development labs for new works. All our shows and events are always ticketed on a sliding scale, and always include a pay-what-you-can option, ensuring that no one ever has a financial barrier to being a part of our work.
