No One Should Go Hungry in Capitol Hill

At Community Lunch, we provide more than meals—we create connection, dignity, and stability for our neighbors experiencing food insecurity and homelessness.

Community Lunch has been providing meals for over 40 years. We serve hot, scratch made lunch, Monday through Friday, regardless of the weather or if it is a holiday. An average of 130 daily guests, representing a diversity of lived experience, find respite, enjoy a meal, and share stories in a setting where safety and respectful treatment are guaranteed

Why Community Lunch Matters

Food insecurity and homelessness continue to rise across Seattle, especially in dense neighborhoods like Capitol Hill.

Many of our guests:

  • Are living unsheltered or in unstable housing
  • Struggle with rising food costs and limited access to kitchens
  • Experience deep social isolation

Traditional systems often come with barriers that exclude the most vulnerable like documentation requirements, rigid appointment times,  and waitlists.

We don’t.

We meet people exactly where they are—with nutritious food, respect, and consistency.

Like any truly open and affirming community, we welcome everyone and place no conditions on accessing services. Guests may eat as much as they want and take food with them when they leave. Many guests tell us that we are their only source of healthy food. For them, this is more than a meal—it’s a stable and reliable touchpoint in their lives. In addition to our daily meals, we distribute warm clothing, shoes, and toiletries. We work with community partners to connect guests with medical care, mental health services, and other essential resources.

Impact Snapshot

Last year, Community Lunch:

  • Served 85,198 meals
  • Welcomed several hundred guests
  • Served 312 days of the year
  • Hosted a Thanksgiving meal, a Christmas feast, and a New Year's celebration - days that most other service providers are closed. Monday through Friday, we are NEVER closed!
  • Maintained a 100% low-barrier access model, never turning away a single guest
  • Delivered all of this with a small staff and a dedicated group of volunteers

We are on track to serve 110,000 meals this year. Our daily average attendance is up over 20% and rising operating costs are stretching us thin. While we are proud to provide services for free, each meal does carry a financial cost. If you are inspired by the power of a shared meal served with with love, please consider supporting us.

Your Gift Directly Feeds Community

A few numbers:

  • $25 provides meals for five guests
  • $100 ensures a serving of fresh produce is on every plate during a lunch service
  • $500 supports one day of emergency operations during snow and heat waves

Your support ensures that Community Lunch remains a reliable, welcoming space for those who need it most.

Come See It for Yourself!

Whether or not you’re able to give today, you are always welcome to join us for lunch.

We serve every weekday at All Pilgrims Christian Church on Broadway.
