Ballet Folklórico Xochiquetzal (BFX) is a nonprofit cultural arts organization providing culturally responsive arts education to youth across Snohomish County, Washington. Through traditional Mexican folklórico indigenous dances, BFX integrates arts, education, and community to support the development of the whole child.
Founded and directed by educator Xochitl Palacios, BFX creates opportunities for students across the Edmonds School District, neighboring districts, and homeschool communities to connect deeply with their cultural roots while building confidence, discipline, and academic pathways.
Through folklórico, students learn regional history, storytelling, and cultural traditions while developing leadership skills and a strong sense of identity and belonging. By removing financial barriers and providing access to instruction and regalia, BFX ensures that all students—especially those from Latinx, immigrant, and underserved communities—can participate and thrive.
Supported by a dedicated board of educators representing multiple school districts, BFX reflects a collaborative, community-centered approach to serving youth. The program is designed to meet the diverse needs of students and families, providing inclusive spaces where culture is celebrated, community is built, and every learner feels a sense of belonging.
BFX is more than a dance program—it is a movement that uplifts culture, empowers youth, and strengthens communities across the region.
