About CARE Fund 

Andy Hill Cancer Research Endowment (CARE) Fund, Washington’s cancer research endowment, invests in public and private entities to promote cancer research in Washington. Through research grants and strategic partnerships, CARE Fund improves health outcomes by advancing transformational research in the prevention and treatment of cancer.     

CARE Fund Impact 

This year marks 10 years since the bill establishing CARE Fund was signed into law. CARE Fund grants contribute to Washington’s economy and advance scientific knowledge to improve the health of Washingtonians: 

• Over $67.5M in grants and other investments made in Washington since 2015

• CARE Fund grants resulted in an estimated $113.5M in economic impact to the state economy and every dollar awarded by CARE Fund generated 1.95 dollars to the economy of the state of Washington

• 17 Distinguished Researchers Grants attracted top national and international talent to Washington
• More than 300 peer-reviewed publications were reported by CARE Fund-supported researchers
• Led to the creation of nearly 500 jobs in Washington

The Impact of Your Gift   

There were an estimated 44,470 new cancer cases in Washington last year. Virtually every Washingtonian will be affected in some way by cancer in their lifetime, through a colleague, friend, family member, or personal diagnosis. 

Donations to support CARE Fund's mission to promote cancer research and prevention to improve the quality of life of Washingtonians are matched 1:1 with funds from Washington State’s public investment for Andy Hill CARE Fund’s cancer research grants.

CARE Fund is named in honor of State Senator Andy Hill who was a dedicated legislator and public champion of cancer research. In 2009, he lost his battle with lung cancer at the age of 54.
