Mission

The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia -

by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

Description

The Alzheimer's Association Oregon and Southwest Washington Chapter provides care and support to people affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. In Washington, our chapter covers Clark and Skamania counties. We provide a variety of programs and services that inform and empower people living with the disease and those who care for them. A strong support system and better understanding of the disease can extend quality of life for the person with dementia and help maintain the health of caregivers. Our community programs provide education, help people develop support networks, and teach best practices for caregiving and stress management.

In Oregon and SW Washington, more than 87,000  people live with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia and over 170,000 people - primarily unpaid family members - serve as their caregivers. Alzheimer's is indiscriminate and affects people of all ages, races, socio-economic statuses, family history, and genders and it is not a natural part of aging. There is, as of yet, no cure, no way to slow the progression, and no treatment. To that end, the Alzheimer's Association is also the world's largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research.

Recognition

All programs are provided at no cost to the client thanks to support from donors, sponsors, corporations and foundations.

These programs and services would not be available without support from our caring and generous community.
