Mission

The Alliance for Tompotika Conservation (AlTo) is committed to helping all of nature, including people, thrive. Our work is centered in Sulawesi, Indonesia-one of Earth's most unique biological treasure-houses. At the invitation of local communities, AlTo forges partnerships to protect and restore imperiled species, tropical rainforests, and other natural ecosystems while supporting the dignity and self-sufficiency of local communities in a changing world.

Description

The Alliance for Tompotika Conservation (AlTo) partners directly with local people on field conservation projects to protect endangered species and habitats, and on outreach efforts such as school programs, nature field trips, and Art for Conservation events. During this past year AlTo's efforts have focused on protecting forests and local communities which are now threatened by nickel surface-mining in the region. By working with local people and international partners, we hope to establish new protected areas that would safeguard the most sensitive and biologically important areas from destruction from nickel mining activities and help to preserve the self-sufficiency and health of local communities. To learn more about the impacts of nickel mining in Sulawesi read our update here. All donations to AlTo will support successful recovery of endangered species and conservation education in Tompotika, one of the world's most unique biodiversity treasures.
