Description

Advocates for Immigrants in Detention Northwest (AIDNW), founded in 2005, is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, which supports immigrants detained inside the Northwest ICE Processing Center (NWIPC), a 1,575-bed immigration detention facility located in Tacoma, WA. AIDNW strives to improve detention conditions by ending the isolation of asylum-seeking immigrants when separated from family and while they await their civil legal case hearings. 

When detained immigrants are released, AIDNW provides welcoming services focused on transitional support and connection to vital resources for resettlement. Volunteers arrange temporary safe housing, as needed, at the AIDNW Hospitality House or a hotel and onward travel assistance by bus, train or plane so immigrants can reach their families or friends in the US. AIDNW operates with over 200 dedicated volunteers from the greater Puget Sound region, a volunteer Board of Directors, and two volunteer staff to guide our work.

AIDNW receives no government funding. Besides many hours of volunteer time, AIDNW is supported exclusively through small grants and donations like yours. It takes a village to welcome and support our friends in need from all over the world, and we need your help!
