Our Mission
Hunger Intervention Program (HIP) works to increase food security for underserved communities in North King County by providing nutritious meals, empowering education, and strong advocacy.
Who We Are
HIP’s vision is simple and bold: nutritious, culturally relevant food for every person. Each week, we serve thousands of fresh, delicious meals to seniors, under‑resourced families, and neighbors experiencing homelessness.
HIP offers cooking and nutrition classes, food justice workshops, and community gardening programs that equip people with the skills and confidence to lead healthy lives and advocate for their food rights.
We also collaborate with local, state, and national food justice coalitions to push for policy changes that address the root causes of hunger.
What Your Support Makes Possible
Your donation helps sustain and expand HIP’s core meal programs:
- Summer Eats – Nutritious meals for children during summer months when school meals disappear.
- Healthy HIP Packs – Weekend food support for students who rely on school meals during the week.
- Senior Community Meals – Four weekly meals for older adults, including a culturally specific gathering for East African elders.
- Shelter Meals – Daily meals at two full‑service shelters supporting individuals working toward stable, long‑term housing.
- Afterschool Meals – Three days a week at the Lake City Library for children receiving tutoring and homework help.
Education & Empowerment Programs
Your gift also fuels HIP’s hands‑on learning programs:
- Cooking & Nutrition Classes – For seniors, children, and families through our community partners.
- Food Justice Workshops – Building community power and understanding around food access and equity.
- Gardening Classes – Teaching children how to grow their own food at our local P‑Patch.
Why Your Gift Matters
When you give to HIP, you’re not just providing a meal. You’re supporting dignity, health, cultural connection, and long‑term change. Together, we can ensure that every neighbor has access to the food they need and deserve.
