$50,000 goal
Haida Roots Cause is to bring healing joy, like a refreshing river, to our children through writing, speaking & singing in our precious, endangered Haida language.
With your kind donation, we will accomplish these goals in 2026-27 together with our community:
1. Create language learning resources:
books, fluent speaker elders video.
2. Compose & record new Haida music:
that will be featured on 2 new albums.
3. Teach weekly music classes for kids:
teaching very young children vocal warm-ups
and singing techniques, along with learning
our Haida vocables & language.
4. Travel to schools, events and programs:
to teach and share our resources, stories & music.
Deliverables:
1. Multilingual Indigenous Music for Children’s album:
New album recording session and album release event
featuring 8 songs for children.
2. Haida Language Songbook 2: an audio book of old and
new Haida songs with interactive links to sing-a-long.
3. Khu.éex’ album: new album recording session & album
release for our Seattle based tribal funk band, Khu.éex'.
4. Fluent Speaker video: transcribed & translated video of
footage we captured of our mentor Jane Kristovich, a
fluent Haida birth-speaker. We were able to capture her
teachings before she passed away at the age of 94.
