My Journey from Lost to Found
On December 29, 2015, I spent the night in a car, using drugs. I had gotten out of a 30 day treatment center and I had sworn I'd never use again....but the disease of addiction is cunning, baffling, and powerful. I cried out to God saying "How did I get back here? I wanted so badly to stop using!"
Before that, I had lost it all. I was in a drug-induced psychosis, wandering the streets of Seattle with nothing but the clothes on my back and a backpack. I had lost my sanity — and even worse, I lost custody of my kids.
I entered the Mission's long term recovery program, and that's when everything began to change.
The Mission gave me stability, community, and the tools to rebuild my life. I completed the year-long program, moved into an internship, and then later started freelancing with the Mission’s marketing team. A few years ago, that turned into a full-time position. I now get to use my story — and my skills — to help others find the same hope I did.
I’m living proof that recovery is possible, with the right help and support, and God's grace.
Today, I have an amazing life with my 4 children. I have a driver’s license, a car, a career, a community that loves me, a home church that’s become like family—and a future. Every day, I’m reminded that recovery is a daily journey, one I walk with God.
I'm raising money for Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission because this place changed my life — and I see miracles here every day. When you give, you’re investing in real, long-term solutions. You’re helping someone who’s lost everything rediscover who they are in Christ and find a path forward.
