New update
WOW! Already we have raised over $2800 in 24 hours! We also have another generous donor who has offered additional $3000 match. Let's go!
Tire wear pollution is one of the most urgent and under-recognized threats to salmon in our region.
Every time it rains, particles from tires wash off roads and into our streams. These particles transform into a chemical called 6PPD-quinone (6PPD-q), which has been shown to be highly toxic to coho salmon and poses a growing risk to other salmon and trout species.
This isn’t a distant problem. It’s happening right here.
The Three Rivers Chapter of Trout Unlimited is working on the ground to stop it before it reaches salmon habitat.
We are actively working toward solutions that can be engineered, installed, and maintained by trained volunteers, reducing toxic runoff before it ever reaches clean water.
This is local science and community impact with real, tangible impact.
This GiveBIG, we’re raising $10,000 to expand this work and protect salmon where they are most vulnerable.
A generous donor has committed a $5,500 match, meaning your gift goes twice as far when you give early.
Every dollar helps us:
- Deploy monitoring equipment in local streams
- Support real-world solutions to reduce toxic runoff
- Engage volunteers in hands-on conservation
- Support education and outreach on coldwater conservation and community health
Your local TU chapter is preparing to install a box filtration system that filters polluted stormwater from elevated bridges and roadways before it flows into streams below.
We are advancing real, on-the-ground solutions that can be engineered, installed, and maintained by trained volunteers, stopping toxic runoff before it ever reaches clean water.
