Mission
Habitat for Humanity envisions a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We work alongside families and communities to build and improve places to call home—creating a foundation for better health, stronger communities, and expanded opportunity. Habitat homeowners partner in the process, helping build their homes alongside volunteers and purchasing them with an affordable mortgage.
Description
Habitat for Humanity of Island County is currently partnering with several local families on their journey to safe, stable, and affordable homeownership. The Scheftner, Booth, and Vinson families—along with an additional partner family soon to be selected—are working alongside Habitat staff and dedicated volunteers to build homes and brighter futures right here in our community.
Through Habitat’s homeownership program, families invest hundreds of hours of “sweat equity,” helping build their own homes and the homes of their neighbors. This hands-on partnership not only creates affordable housing, but also strengthens connections and builds a sense of pride and stability that lasts for generations.
These homes represent more than just walls and roofs—they are the foundation for improved health, educational success, and financial stability. As construction progresses in neighborhoods like Marin Woods, these families are one step closer to achieving their goal of homeownership and putting down long-term roots in Island County.
Donations from supporters like you make this possible. We rely on our generous community for funding, volunteer labor, and donations of household goods to be sold in our Habitat Stores. Together, we’re building homes, community, and opportunity.
