Mission

Homestead Community Land Trust creates stability, equity and opportunity by developing land and housing in trust, giving lower-income households the opportunity to own a home that is affordable to them and remains affordable to future owners. Our work is expanding an equitable economy for housing to help repair the harms of housing discrimination and protect vulnerable communities from displacement.

Imagine unlocking the front door to a home you own. Your children know they'll be in the same school next year. Your monthly housing payment won't suddenly jump because the rent increased again. Every mortgage payment builds equity instead of disappearing forever. You can plant a garden, paint the walls, invite friends over, and know you're home.

For too many hardworking families, that future feels out of reach. Even people with steady jobs are finding it harder and harder to buy a home, build wealth, or remain in the communities where they work, volunteer, worship, and raise their children.

Homestead exists to change that.

We develop beautiful, permanently affordable homes and sell them to first-time homebuyers using traditional fixed-rate mortgages. Families gain the stability of a permanent address, the opportunity to build equity, and the security of knowing they can invest in their future without fear of being priced out of their neighborhood.

What makes Homestead different is that the opportunity doesn't end with one family. Through the community land trust model, each home remains affordable for the next income-qualified buyer. The same home creates opportunity again and again, allowing every public dollar and every charitable gift to benefit generation after generation of homeowners.

Since 1992, Homestead has helped more than 350 households become homeowners in King County. Today, we are building or planning more than 400 more homes, bringing the promise of homeownership to hundreds more families.
