Who We Are
Founded in 1980 by local disability advocates, TACID is a Pierce County community center where adults with cognitive, developmental, physical, sensory, and behavioral health disabilities can access free support services, connect with peers, and build the skills they need to thrive. We also provide meeting space for community partners and support groups serving people with disabilities and their families.
Our Impact
In 2025, TACID served 1,306 individuals and delivered 16,522 services — all at no cost to Pierce County residents, regardless of income or insurance status. We help participants discover their strengths, learn new skills, and make social and emotional gains that meaningfully improve their quality of life.
Wellness & Recovery Program
At the heart of TACID is our Wellness and Recovery Program. Guided by the evidence-based, peer support model, we believe people who have faced and overcome adversity are uniquely equipped to support others on a similar journey. Through free peer support groups, one-on-one support, wellness activities, inclusive recreation, and information and referrals, we meet people where they are. All direct services are provided by Washington State Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPCs) with lived experience of disability or behavioral health challenges.
A Uniquely Inclusive Community
TACID serves adults with both visible and invisible disabilities under one roof — and that's by design. Our inclusive model fosters regular interaction among peers with different abilities and experiences, creating a culture of acceptance, belonging, and empowerment.
