Russian Seattle for Freedom

Russian Seattle for Freedom stands with people whose freedom has been taken away — from asylum seekers trapped in U.S. immigration detention to political prisoners in Russia.

We provide direct support, build community, and stand for human dignity, equality, and democratic values. None of this work would be possible without people who choose to care and get involved.

Our projects

1. Support for Russians in U.S. immigration detention
Some Russian asylum seekers in U.S. immigration detention are held for months or even years without knowing when they will be released. This is cruel, dehumanizing, and unlawful.

We support people in detention through both legal and practical help. We hire attorneys who can fight for their release through habeas corpus petitions and bond hearings. This work is only possible because of donor support.

2. Letters to political prisoners
Together with our local community, we write and send postcards to political prisoners in Russia.

It is a small act, but it matters. These letters remind people that they are not forgotten. Many are losing precious years of their lives simply for expressing their political views. Some are teenagers just beginning their lives. Others may never fully get their freedom back.

3. Community events
We organize rallies, book discussions, picnics, conversation clubs, and film screenings to support our community and bring like-minded people together.

These events help people connect, feel less isolated, and find a space where they can speak openly, support one another, and stay united around shared democratic values.
