One of the most rewarding events NWSSA hosts are Youth Soapstone Carving Classes. During our most recent "Best of the Northwest Show" at Magnuson Park in Seattle, we welcomed about 40 kids from 5 to 75!
Artist instructors from the Northwest Stone Sculptors Association guide youth participants through the process of shaping this beautiful, natural material into a figurine to take home. These workshops are designed to promote fine motor skills, 3D spatial reasoning, and artistic confidence.
With your donation, NWSSA can purchase the soapstone blanks, all necessary kid-safe tools, sandpapers, files and a stipend for instructors.
Our goal is to continue to expand on the opportunities to offer these classes for free to youth in the communities where our members live and work.
