January 22, 2023 was the 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade. But, after five decades, we are once again without federal abortion rights. 

And it has not stopped there. In fact, conservative and hate groups have only increased their efforts to remove all traces of reproductive rights in America. 

They have not slowed down, so neither can we. We need your help.

Mifepristone: Medication abortion

The Supreme Court is reviewing a case on mifepristone , one of two drugs used in medication abortions and a critical drug in miscarriage management. In early April of 2023, a Trump-appointed Federal Judge in Texas overturned a 23-year-old FDA approval of mifepristone, which has repeatedly been shown to be safer than Tylenol. 

The same day, a Federal Judge in Washington ruled that the FDA approvals stands in Washington and the 17 other states that were part of the lawsuit. The Supreme Court ultimately upheld access to mifepristone while these cases make their way through the lower courts. 

This case highlights two important thing: 

1. The overturning of Roe v. Wade was just the start of efforts to strip our reproductive rights. 

2. States like Washington are playing an increasingly critical role in protecting these rights here at home and across the country.

Pro-Choice Washington is here and committed to navigating these rulings to best protect, restore, and promote your rights. Remember, you are part of the majority. And these actions and decisions do not represent the will of the people. 

Our Work Has Not Slowed Down 

2022 was a watershed year for our movement and for our organization. But our work has only intensified in the face of increased national and state attacks on reproductive rights.  

But, simply put, while the news cycle moves on, our work has no option but to continue at full intensity. States like Washington play a critical role in protecting both state and national abortion rights, as exemplified by the Federal Case out of Eastern Washington that protected medication abortion for 18 states.

Pro-Choice Washington also championed five reproductive rights policies during this year's Legislative Session, which protect everyone's data privacy, provider and patient's safety, and expands who and how people can access care in our state.
