The mission of Port Townsend Education Foundation is to secure resources and award grants that inspire students and support teachers in the Port Townsend School District.

PTEF was founded in 2007 in response to the financial challenges the district and teachers  of the Port Townsend School District faced when seeking to provide enrichment in the classroom. This home-grown, locally-championed organization continues its focused mandate to provide support one project at a time.

PTEF uses the following priorities to fund projects within the Port Townsend Public School System.

Life-Long Learning: The Port Townsend Education Foundation will support programs that foster a desire for life-long learning among students, staff, parents and the community at large.

An environment that fosters a desire for life-long learning:

  • is built on a foundation of trust,

  • empowers students, parents, and educators,

  • involves a diversity of community members for mentoring students, and

  • promotes intellectual, spiritual, emotional and physical health.

In this environment, educators are provided support and encouragement to pursue best practice professional development to continually improve the quality of their work.

Equity: The Port Townsend Education Foundation will support programs that offer each learner an opportunity to achieve his or her fullest potential.

An environment that promotes equity is one in which high standards are clearly articulated and owned by stakeholders.  All students are given experience consistency and continuity between classrooms and grades.  High degrees of collaboration exist between educators at all grades and buildings.  In an equitable environment, educators identify and expand each individual child’s potential to achieve.

Community Involvement: The Port Townsend Education Foundation will support programs that strengthen partnerships between the public schools and the community.

A community-based school system has strong family and community involvement and supports formal and informal partnerships between the school district and the community. Educators understand and capitalize on the abilities of parents and community members to improve learning. Parents and community members understand that educators rely on the community for resources and support in their work.

Citizens of the World: Port Townsend Education Foundation will support programs that prepare our graduates to be global citizens ready for the future.

A progressive school system prepares students well for all aspects of their future by providing a strong core educational program. This preparation may include quality preparation for state tests, college entrance tests, and skilled employment. In addition, a school system oriented towards the future anticipates the exponential change of global society and seeks to provide students with the skills and background to lead successful lives as world citizens.
